VV Winery 4: Quinta da Raza
Once we departed Monverde, we headed to Quinta da Raza. Nestled between granite mountains and 2 rivers, this is a plateau vineyard in one of the hottest regions of Vinho Verde that’s been family owned and run since 1769 - and it is stunning!
We took in the views from their rooftop terrace before heading down to the tasting room to try some of their beautiful wines - where we tasted 15 wines in total! Quinta da Raza grows between 8-9 grape varieties, and aside from the grapes, they also have a fully functioning animal farm and vegetable garden. In fact, after our tasting, we enjoyed a beautiful homemade lunch using fresh produce that they’d grown. It was divine!
Now onto some fun wine facts! Quinta da Raza produces about 600,000 bottles of wine per year and they also started dabbling in Pet Nats in 2019 (I was shocked at the amount of Pet Nats available in Portugal!). This producer is also the only one making Gouveio (aka Godello in Spain) in Vinho Verde and coincidentally enough, 2021 was their very first vintage of it and we got to taste it!
This is a winery that I’d say is a must visit if you’re in the region.
