VV Winery 5: Quinta de Lourosa

The next stop on our Vinho Verde adventures was Quinta de Lourosa. This family-run winery also runs a bed and breakfast and it’s the cutest, quaintest little spot.

We started our tour by enjoying a glass of bubbly on the grounds by the pool. This is when I started to notice a very common theme about wineries/vineyards in Vinho Verde typically having a pool. And I suppose it makes sense considering that a lot of them operate a bed and breakfast, and the temperatures in the summer can reach pretty high. We were there in mid-October and it was still pretty toasty!

Like I mentioned, Quinta de Lourosa is a family run operation; however, even though it originally started operating in 1675, it actually only opened up for tourism about 20 years ago. Joanna is the head winemaker here and the reason she wanted to get into this field was that for as long as she could remember, she’s always loved champagne but couldn’t afford it as an everyday luxury when she was younger - so it was her goal to make her own everyday sparkling wine, and here she is now! It’s honestly so nice to see when dreams are turned into a reality.

The property is super rustic with so much charm. There’s greenery everywhere, and it’s picture perfect. Interestingly enough, they don’t use any irrigation in the vineyard and this is because the area of Vinho Verde that they’re in doesn’t have copious amounts of water. The water that they do have is utilized for household needs and of course, filling up the pool!
